Read our expert insights, predictions and tips for the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season as we look at odds for the winner, promotion, relegation and the top goalscorer, as well as a 1-18.
After a decent go at the predictions last season, we are back with this season's predictions for the upcoming Ligue 1 season. I have also signed up to stick my neck out a little more with a 1-18, so stay tuned for that.
I have reviewed the statistics, teams, and transfers, and I think I've compiled a decent list of odds. So, without further ado, let's get into it.
This is the shortest section in any of my previews so far, and it is impossible to guess why this is the case, isn't it? Unfortunately, the Ligue 1 market for the title is short, and that is all because of the favourites, PSG.
I am not going to go against them, I don't think it would make any sense to. There is seemingly no stopping the French giants, and I don't think there will be any change to the situation this season.
Of course, if you want a French league bet, it is possible to combine this with others. However, as a market itself, it is probably best to use it as a booster or to use it with a booster. So, betting on a football game and PSG to win the league, or something like that, for an odds boost.
The Parisiens looked superb in the summer, even though they fell quite embarrassingly to Chelsea. However, the champions of Europe should face few issues in the league this season.
It would be a shock, in fact, if they did face any extended issues.
There are no moves of note to discuss so far this summer, either in or out, and with how they did last season, there probably won't be a need for them to be. To be frank, it is not really worth backing this as a single. The price is just not worth it for almost a year of waiting.
Below are the ante-post Ligue 1 winner odds at the time of this post.
PSG to Win Ligue 1 - 1/8
There are not many markets available for the French top flight, unfortunately. However, where we have previously looked at the Top Four markets, we can look at the Top Three markets here, instead.
Of course, the favourites are PSG; however, we still need to find two sides that will finish within the Top Three.
Monaco's recruitment so far has been really intriguing; Ansu Fati, Paul Pogba, Eric Dier and Lukas Hradecky arrive to bolster an already strong squad, whilst no one of note has been sold. In other words, they are in a good position.
Adi Hutter has had the Monegasque side in the top three in both of his seasons in charge, and this season should be no different. The German manager has impressed quite a lot in recent years, and this year should be no different.
There can be questions asked of Marseille, Nice and Lille. However, I think it could be the latter who just edge a place in the top three. This summer, Les Dogues have lost some key names, most notably Benjamin Chevalier.
However, some young talent has arrived from across Europe, as well as adding Romain Peraud, an established name in France, as well as Arnaud Bodart, who adds experience from FC Metz. How can we forget Olivier Giroud, though, who returns to Europe after a stint in America.
At a nice price, it is certainly worth having a look at, in my opinion.
With the top end of the table looked at, now we need to look at the bottom side of the division, and there are some interesting teams in the relegation picture, in my eyes.
Metz, for the bookmakers, are the favourites to go down and I would struggle to disagree with them right now. Investment has been minimal in a team that probably needs quite a lot after a summer of poaching.
Despite them being the favourites, we can still get Evens on this selection at the time of writing, which could be good value.
For the other relegation spot, I am looking at Lorient. Les Merlus won Ligue 2 last season, but they do not look like they have made enough recruitment to bridge the gap to the top division, at least not yet.
They, in many respects, have done better than Metz, largely because they have kept their team together. However, this could also bite them at the end of the season. In other words, it will be a big test for them.
Finally, there are several teams that could find themselves in the relegation play-off at the end of the season. However, I think it could be Le Havre's spot, last season they conceded a staggering 71 goals, and stayed up marginally.
If they were involved at the bottom of the division again, it would not be a surprise, put it that way.
Below are the ante-post Ligue 1 relegation odds at the time of this post.
It is a little boring, but it is difficult to see past Ousmane Dembele being the Ligue 1 top scorer this season. The Frenchman was superb in 2024/25, and with PSG likely to dominate again this season, the attacker could be the star again.
We can still get a nice price on him, which makes the pick more attractive, too.
Ousmane Dembele to be the Top Scorer in Ligue 1 - 11/4
For a little bit of fun, I have also tried to put together my 1-18, which can be seen below. A difficult task indeed, but let's give it a go!
