Cardiff Stalling?

Cardiff City sit at the top of the table, but it is certainly not as pretty as it once may have been. Their last loss came on December 20, but they have dropped several results since then, so whilst their form looks solid, it really isn’t.

In their past 10 games, three teams have performed better than them form-wise, and this weekend’s draw has not helped at all, especially considering that Burton are one of the weaker outfits in League One this season.

They are not done in the title race, far from it. However, if they are not careful, they could make it a lot more difficult than it needs to be.

Pursuing them closely is Lincoln City, who are the best team form-wise in League One. With seven wins and three draws in their past 10 games, it is difficult to look for faults in them for the title race, especially with them winning their last three in a row.

Certainly not a pretty one, the Imps managed a 1-0 win against Wigan at the weekend, and it is another three points on the board, which is ultimately all that matters. The 9/2 price for them to win the league with the best football betting sites is certainly not ridiculous…

Fantastic Form

Bolton Wanderers are currently leading the charge to the automatics, but the six-point gap to second will be difficult to overturn. The Whites have been similarly brilliant recently, winning four of their last five games in the division.

For them, it was a 1-0 win against Wimbledon in the early kick-off, so again, a lot of the same can be said. Not pretty, but points are what matter, and Steven Schumacher’s side are certainly getting on the right side of results more often than not.

At risk of sounding like a broken record, Dave Challinor’s Stockport County are also in incredible form. 13 points from their last 15 available is a fantastic haul, and the Hatters are certainly still in contention for League One promotion this season.

Another one-goal advantage saw them beat Plymouth Argyle 2-1 at home, making it four on the bounce for Challinor’s men.

It was a return to winning ways for Bradford City this weekend, after three defeats in a row recently. Against Doncaster, though, it was to be expected, given Rovers’ recent struggles.

The Bantams were fighting for an automatic spot in the table not so long ago, and this recent drop will certainly be frustrating to some… However, there could be a debate about the side fighting above their weight this season, so maybe things are balancing out?

Taking the final spot in the play-offs is Huddersfield Town, who have been magnificent since Liam Manning’s appointment. Wins against Peterborough, Luton and Bradford are undeniably impressive, and the Terriers have now built a six-point gap of safety in the top six.

Sky Bet are still offering 8/13 for them to get a play-off spot, and it could be worth considering at this rate…

However, it will not be an uncontested spot. Luton and Stevenage, despite being six points away, could shorten that gap with their games in hand. In fact, the latter could go level with Huddersfield, given they have two opportunities for points.

Considering they have only won one of their last five games, though, it certainly is a bit of a doubt.

Port Vale Win Again

At the bottom of the division, things have received a little boost, with Port Vale winning against Blackpool. It is their second win in four games, so there could certainly be some hope growing in Staffordshire. For the bookies, though, it is not mirrored, and they are still 1/5 to go down.

Eight points ahead of them, things are looking very bleak for Northampton, who have lost their past four games in a row. This weekend, Reading got the better of them, and given the Cobblers missed three big chances, they could already be as good as down

Doncaster’s defeat to Bradford City keeps them in the relegation places still, ending their recent resurgence. Before the weekend, they had picked up eight points from their last 12, and it will now be a test of their mental strength if they are to bounce back.

The final spot of the bottom four is now taken by Burton Albion, despite their fantastic draw against Cardiff this weekend. Few faults can be taken from that performance, but they must continue with that spirit if they are to stay up.

Rotherham’s second win in a row means that they are now outside the relegation places for the first time in a while. The Millers may have begun to turn a corner, but they are only safe on goal difference currently. They are certainly not safe.

In fact, the bookmakers still have them as third favourites to go down, which is quite telling.

Blackpool, Wimbledon, Leyton Orient and Wigan are all still in massive danger of the drop, and they are only a point or two outside of the danger zone. Things can change quickly with only a few results.
