Across the board we saw some interesting results in League One this weekend, and as a result, the league table has moved around a little, including the spot for automatic promotion.
After two wins on the bounce, Birmingham were likely very confident about grabbing another positive result against Northampton Town. However, the Blues were held to a 1-1 draw by the hosts, despite having almost 80% of the possession during the game.
Of course, it's still a point on the board against a side that has regularly frustrated the division's best teams. Furthermore, there is a 12-point gap to the automatic promotion place, so there are no real reasons to fear dropping a point here and there.
Below, we have collected the top team and its respective odds to win the title in the 2024/25 League One season.
Following Birmingham for most of the season has been Wycombe Wanderers, but that has changed after the weekend's action.
Now, Wrexham occupy the second spot after their 1-0 win away against the Chairboys on Saturday afternoon. It's a result that could be huge in the automatic promotion race, especially as the Red Dragons' form away from the Racecourse has not been exceptional.
There is a caveat to this though. As of Monday morning, the hosts have a game in hand over Wrexham, so if they win that they will return to second place, boosted by a better goal difference than their rivals.
They are certainly not sitting pretty though, as a new competitor has emerged for the automatic spot, but it may be too late. Charlton recorded their second win in a row at the weekend, and their fourth in their last five games against Wigan, taking them to 66 points.
The gap, as it stands, is five points to Wrexham, so you cannot write off Nathan Jones' side for an automatic spot as League One can be massively unpredictable.
Sitting in fifth is Stockport, who managed to overturn rivals Bolton Wanderers - it has had a big impact on standings below them - which makes that win even nicer for the visitors. A lot of doubts were in place post-Louie Barry, however, they have not stopped and look like a real likelihood for a play-off place.
Wrapping up the playoffs, once again, is Huddersfield Town, who recorded their first (or five) goal(s) at home in 2025. Michael Duff's sacking was questioned recently, but interim head coach Jon Worthington has certainly proved that he is ready for the challenge, beating Crawley 5-1.
Bolton now sit outside of the top six after two losses in a row, though they are just a point behind the Terriers, so they are far from out of the race, and the same can be said for Reading, who sit just two points behind sixth place.
A lot can, and probably will, change in the next two months.
Below, we have collected the top teams - aside from the big favourites - and their respective odds to finish top 6 in the 2024/25 League One season.
This season, it has been a case of who is worse than the other at the bottom of the division, and this weekend, yet again, was a showing of this.
Shrewsbury continued on their depressing run of form, worsened by the loss being against Burton Albion, who are desperately fighting to get out of the relegation zone - but we'll be back on them shortly.
Ultimately, the Shrews have not picked up this season, and are paying a very big price for not. Right now, they are at the bottom of the league and there cannot be any complaints about it.
Following them, we have another huge result in the wider context of the relegation zone, with Cambridge United losing to bitter rivals Peterborough. The U's, again, have been poor for the majority of the season, and losing to a side that sits just outside the relegation zone is no help to them, more so as beating a rival could have kickstarted something more...
A lot of the same can be said about Crawley too, with the side failing to pick up anything at the weekend. However bad they may be, conceding five to a side that has not scored at home this season, is a really bad look, and again, they look rather hopeless.
Burton then take up the final place in the relegation zone, but they are certainly not doomed like the others. Another win at the weekend against a fellow struggler is a huge result, and whilst they have dropped off a little in recent weeks, they can certainly bridge a six-point gap. However, it may be too late.
Right now, three teams sit on 42 points; Bristol Rovers, Northampton and Peterborough, so there is a bit of safety, but neither team in that group has really convinced much so far this season, so it can not be written off.
Below, we have collected the top four teams and their respective odds to be relegated in the 2024/25 League One season.
