We are back for another season of drama, as the League One season kicked off this weekend. Results across the board were interesting, but there was a real focus on the actual placements after Matchday 1.
No one drew a game this weekend, so this has shaped the table in a really strange way. One that we are not complaining about, though, early drama is always nice! As it is the first week too, we have tried to base outcomes on predictions of certain teams.
So, without further ado, let's dive into it!
Below, we have collected the top teams and their respective odds to win the title in the 2025/26 League One season.
Huddersfield Town were my pick to win the League One title this season, and they started the season perfectly by all accounts. Three goals - with two coming from new summer additions - no goals conceded, three points.
Fans of the Terriers probably could not have asked for a better start this season, especially after being hammered by the O's at the end of last summer. In fact, it has even caused some to draw parallels to the last magical season the club had.
Stockport's win against Bolton was another huge one at the top of the table, all things considered, with it being the first game of the season. Dave Challinor's side have been predicted to do big things this season, and he could not have asked for a better start.
A dominant performance against one of the club's local rivals is about as good as it gets for the opening day. They are 5th on goal difference, but this is a real statement result for the Hatters, indeed.
Elsewhere, Cardiff and Luton both picked up slim wins at the weekend. It is a good start, regardless of their league position. A first win in a new league can always be difficult, but their odds have not moved around too much.
Below, we have collected the top teams - aside from the big favourites - and their respective odds to finish top 6 in the 2025/26 League One season.

Barnsley's second-place position is a real start for the Tykes and gets us straight into the play-off picture. A 10-man win against a Plymouth Argyle side that have been predicted to do well this summer is good in itself.
However, when considering that Tarn dominated the game, really, looking more dangerous away from home put them into a different situation. It is a fantastic start for the side who have faced a lot of criticism recently. However, Barnsley will not be complaining.
Past them, it was quite a disappointing week for a lot of the playoff-oriented teams in the league. Blackpool were on the end of a narrow defeat, starting their season off poorly at home, which was a really poor result.
Wycombe were also poor value for money against newly promoted Bradford City, who returned to League One with a 2-1 victory against one of the better sides from last season. A statement, perhaps.
For Bolton, Reading and Leyton Orient, there is certainly work to be done, with all sitting at the bottom of the league.
Below, we have collected the top four teams and their respective odds to be relegated in the 2025/26 League One season.
As it's the first week, we're really basing a lot of this on my pre-season predictions. However, this can of course change very quickly.
There were no real shocks for Northampton, Exeter City and AFC Wimbledon, as they all failed to start their seasons with a positive start. All three have been tipped to struggle this year, and the opening signs do not look great.
Port Vale did not get off the mark at the first time of asking. However, a 2-1 defeat in a hectic game against Rotherham is not the worst result ever. At the end of the season, though, it could be viewed very differently.
Rotherham were actually one of my picks to go down this season, but they, alongside Bradford, managed to get off the winning ways, which was rather impressive in a mad week for League One, where no team drew. Every game was won or lost, which was a real bit of intrigue and surely a first in a league this mad.
