It is never as easy as it may seem in League One, and last night's action was yet another example of the English Third tier showing us a little bit of wonder. With some huge results, let's get going with it.
Well, we've not been in this position for a little while. Birmingham City dropped points last night, doing so against Bolton with a 3-1 scoreline, which is certainly strange to see for the Blues. Despite this, though, they are in no danger.
With a nine-point gap to Wycombe still in place and a game in hand, there is still no need to worry if you are a Bluenose, however, if you fancy a slightly better price on their chances of winning the title, you may be offered it!
Below, we have collected the top team and its respective odds to win the title in the 2024/25 League One season.
Football is absolutely ace sometimes, and this matchday has once again proved it. Across the playoffs, many things have changed and it is shaping up to be an absolutely fantastic race.
Wycombe returned to their winning ways at home last night against Burton in League One's late kick-off, which was certainly a needed result considering what transpired elsewhere. The Chairboys were dominant in the game, and three points were thoroughly deserved.
Wrexham managed to pick up three huge points away at Huddersfield too, which has essentially killed off another rival for the automatic spots. Steven Fletcher's controversial goal keeps them just two points behind Wycombe, whilst also giving them 11 points of breathing room to seventh place - a huge result indeed.
They were also helped by Stockport's inability to get the better of Northampton too, which has seen Dave Challenor's side draw for the first time in five games. There will not be any worries in the streets of Stockport though, and they are looking quite safe in the playoffs.
Charlton's recent fantastic run has continued, picking up three huge points against Barnsley in South East London. Tarn, despite falling off slightly, had been a credible playoff challenger in recent weeks, but they have struggled to keep up their run.
Huddersfield then take the final play-off spot, but the loss to Wrexham has got fans frustrated. Before the season began, the Terriers were expected to head straight back to the Championship, but instead, there is a real chance of the team missing out on the playoffs if things do not change.
Finally, Bolton are looking to pounce on Huddersfield, or the others, and sit very nicely in seventh place. A huge win against Birmingham only supports the confidence around Steven Schumacher at present, and they are certainly the most likely team to break into the playoffs in the next few weeks.
Below, we have collected the top teams - aside from the big favourites - and their respective odds to finish top 6 in the 2024/25 League One season.
If the top end of the division is painting a nice picture for League One, it is best to just avoid the bottom end, or at least do so for the majority of the time.
Starting with Shrewsbury, who finally drew a game again after a string of losses in recent weeks. Unfortunately for them, it was at home against Bristol Rovers, so picking up three points could have been monumental for their season, and everyone else's in the bottom five.
However, their failure to do so has only reinforced why they are the bookies' favourites to go down this season.
Crawley follow next, and they fell to a heavy defeat against Lincoln City away from home. The Imps have been very hit-and-miss this season, and whilst they do have quality, losing by a three-goal margin is rather telling, again, for Crawley.
Sitting third from the bottom is Cambridge, who were seeking a third consecutive win in a row, but they were edged by Stevenage. There are flaws in all of the struggling sides, of course there are, and failing to have a singular shot on target at home is a very good reason why the U's may be finding things a little difficult.
In the last relegation spot, we have Burton, who were unable to continue their decent form of recent weeks. Losing to Wycombe is not really a huge problem though, in my eyes, and if anything I'd be more confident of their ability to overturn that result than any other team at the bottom.
For Bristol Rovers, who are sitting on the edge, I cannot say I am too confident about their position, and failing to score against a poor Shrewsbury side is another reason why they are struggling.
Points are hard to come by, but there are certainly a heap of errors in these sides that need plastering over, at least until the end of the season.
Below, we have collected the top four teams and their respective odds to be relegated in the 2024/25 League One season.
