The top six has been shaken up a little in recent weeks, and with the current teams in that zone getting positive results, a gap could be formed in League One.
After losing to Bolton last week, there was a desire to get back to winning ways for Birmingham - we would say need, but it is really not a case of that for Blues. Anyway, they did just that, against a Lincoln side that have been trying to prove themselves as a top-six competitor this season.
As a result, an 11-point gap has now been formed once again, and if there were any doubts at all last time out (we don't know why there would be), they have once again been eliminated. The Bluenoses are still very much destined for the title, nothing new here.
Below, we have collected the top team and its respective odds to win the title in the 2024/25 League One season.
We start at the top of the pile after Birmingham, Wycombe Wanderers, who would otherwise probably be well in the title fight if it was not for the Bluenoses. A reality which, perhaps, is a little harsh on their situation and slightly unlucky, but that is the way of the world.
With that being said, a draw against Peterborough United is an equally good reason why the team are struggling to compete with the league leaders. Nevertheless, they still sit in the automatic places, but whether this will be the case for too long can certainly be questioned.
The team competing for that place is Wrexham, who have been fantastic this season, and another positive week has strengthened their hopes of reaching the Championship via an automatic place.
Beating Rotherham is certainly not the most difficult feat, but a 1-0 win is still a huge result for the Red Dragons, especially at home, and momentum is very much on their side.
Stockport, who have played the most games in the top six, follow next and a draw with Charlton is a huge result for both teams. Fourth vs. fifth, a chance for either to further solidify their position in the playoffs, and a draw is a fantastic result for both, all things considered.
Neither team gained or lost ground, and in terms of excitement, we can only look at this as a great result for the neutral, as it keeps everything tighter in the play-off race.
Finally, Bolton now take up the last spot in the play-offs, beating Burton away from home - which is a much better result than many will give them credit for. The Brewers have been on a decent run in recent weeks, and caused the Wanderers some issues, but Steven Schumacher's side were just too much.
These are the games which really matter in the play-off race, and Bolton's recent form is remarkable - it can definitely be argued that they look the best of any team below the top three at present.
Huddersfield Town lost another game at the weekend, this time to Bristol Rovers, and as a result Michael Duff was sacked from his position as head coach. It is a bold move from the Terriers, and will be heavily criticised, however, it could be what is needed to turn their abysmal recent form around.
Below, we have collected the top teams - aside from the big favourites - and their respective odds to finish top 6 in the 2024/25 League One season.
If the top end of the division is painting a nice picture for League One, it is best to just avoid the bottom end, or at least do so for the majority of the time.
After this weekend's action, Shrewsbury remain at the bottom of the division after a 2-0 loss to Exeter away from home, and I must say that I am really losing hope about the Shrews' situation going forward. It stands as the fourth loss in five games for the side, and things are looking bleak.
Much of the same can be said about Cambridge United, and despite some big wins in the past month, they have returned to their previous selves and look shaky once again.
Losing to Wigan, who have been far from superb this season, is a really bad look and without sounding too much like a broken record, my fears about their hopes are, again, dropping at quite an impressive rate.
A draw for Crawley this weekend is not enough for me to become more confident about their chances, and again, I'm looking at the situation with a bit of worry about their situation, though admittedly, I have been for the majority of the season.
Taking the final spot in the bottom four is Burton, and once again, I am still not feeling completely against their chances of staying up. Despite it being rather obvious, I think they have the best chance of staying up out of the four.
The manner in which they lost to Bolton is certainly not one to be ashamed of, and competing against an in-form side like the Wanderers is not enough for me to consider the side as a lost cause, far from it.
Finally, Bristol Rovers extended the gap outside the relegation zone to six points with their win against Huddersfield at the weekend - a much-needed bit of breathing room indeed, and they are probably just a few decent results away from safety.
Below, we have collected the top four teams and their respective odds to be relegated in the 2024/25 League One season.
