Jarell Quansah is currently away with the England under 21 squad but speaks like a seasoned pro. The young centre back has spoken candidly about how he is far from the complete package as yet whilst being quite self-reflective on specific areas where he needs to develop his skill set.
The trouble the 22-year-old has is that he played a paltry 488 minutes across the Premier League campaign last year. That's not going to aid his development, regardless of how good it is to train with the likes of Virgil Van Dijk and co.
With all of that in mind, Quansah could well be of the mindset that he needs to move elsewhere to kick on again. Recent comments about being ready for the "next step" hardly pour cold water on the flames of a potential Anfield exit either.
Leverkusen have a summer of real transformation ahead and there are two standout reasons why Quansah could feature as part of those changes.
Firstly, Erik Ten Hag is replacing Xabi Alonso in the dugout. The Dutchman and Leverkusen's recruitment team have shown in the past that adding a young defender to their ranks is something they're both happy to do. Lenny Yoro and Jeanuël Belocian being the specific examples that spring to mind.
The second aspect is that Liverpool look more and more nailed on to sign Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen. With the key stumbling block to that deal said to be the transfer fee, Quansah could prove to be the perfect makeweight.
Reports suggest the Reds value him at £40-50m. It seems a lot but if you consider how much Leverkusen are getting for Wirtz, it could be money well spent in the long run.

Liverpool are Quansah's current club and should he still be playing at Anfield come September 3rd, this bet will be paid out. We're not convinced of the value on offer though.
A big reason for that is the messaging the player has peddled in interviews. He has been hugely respectful of his club and, in particular, his teammates but has firmly left the door open to interest from elsewhere.
There is a Liverpool angle to consider to his potential exit too. They're going to want to bring in some cash given their aggressive recruitment and Quansah is an asset they could command a decent fee for without remotely damaging their XI; even if they bring in no defensive reinforcements this summer, he is probably fourth choice at best under Slot.
It's a no brainer they consider moving him on really, being it through a permanent transfer with future terms or, worst case scenario, as a loan exit.

A 12/1 price will tell you that Newcastle is far from nailed on as a possible destination for Quansah. You can logically see why it would be a good fit for both parties though. The Magpies have four senior centre backs but only one of them, Sven Botman, is under the age of 30 with two of them - Dan Burn and Fabian Schar - due to turn 34 before the end of next season.
Quansah would arrive at Newcastle happy to play a supporting role knowing he was capable of taking on a starting berth from next season. Newcastle meanwhile, would add some much-needed youth to their backline whilst also bringing in a player that is homegrown and already exposed to top level football.
Put those factors together with Newcastle playing in the Champions League next season, and it's far from an impossible deal to envisage.

You can point to several players in Forest's squad that have kicked on massively since being with the club; very few have arrived there as known superstars. It’s something that might appeal to Quansah as he looks to maximise his potential. That is probably where the case for this being a likely signing stops, though. We just don't see it.
Sure, you can point to the need they have to bolster their ranks ahead of a European campaign next season, but they are well stocked at the back.
Unless Murillo or Nikola Milenkovic move on, it's hard to see how Quansah would fit in. More to the point, it's hard to see why either party would push for such a deal given the needs of the two.
