Romero's Next Club: Where Could He Go?

It is a bit strange to see Tottenham's vice-captain so heavily linked with a move away. Though, with the Argentine even suggesting that he wants to play in La Liga soon, it is not really a surprise. This is without even considering the season that Tottenham have had.

A market has opened today for where the central defender will be playing at the end of the transfer window, and his current club are not the favourites with a move to Spain very much fancied by the bookies.

So, let's take a look at the possibilities.

Atletico Madrid - 4/5

Romero and Diego Simeone seems like a match made in heaven. A partnership that feels almost right for one another, so it is not really a shock why he is most likely to go to Atleti this summer.

TalkSPORT have reported that the Argentine is 'open' to a move to the Spanish club this summer, so it being the favourite choice for the bookmakers is to be expected. It also seems realistic.

Tottenham Hotspur - 2/1

Seeing Spurs listed at this price almost feels tempting considering what would have to happen. If the North London club get into the Champions League via the Europa League, it could be a huge incentive for him to stay.

Additionally, his contract runs until the summer of 2027, so there is still time for the club to either renegotiate his current deal or profit from his presence without the fear of him leaving for nothing.

It is not like he is demanding a move away, and Spurs are not looking to offload him.

Real Madrid - 9/2

It seems like the big interest in Romero this summer is coming from Madrid, and the Argentine can certainly add a bit of needed grit to the Real Madrid defence - which is never a bad thing.

Should he leave Spurs in the search of trophies, there are few more obvious ideas than Los Blancos, and it could be the perfect move to elevate his career, which is what he is seemingly looking for.

The Options Elsewhere

A move back to Serie A is seemingly an option for the bookmakers, with Napoli and Inter both in the running for him, it seems. However, the prices are nothing of too much intrigue with both above 20/1.

Barcelona are also listed as an option, though it seems that they will try to invest in other areas of the pitch, rather than making a move for a defender.
