After failing to get promoted from League Two, Notts County sacked their manager, Stuart Maynard. Now, the hunt is firmly on for his replacement, as they look to win promotion in the upcoming season.

A ‘Disappointment’ of a Season

After a mid-table finish the season before, Notts County had their eyes firmly on a place in League One next season. However, the Midlands outfit were unable to go the distance, despite reaching the play-offs.

As a result of this, after quite a heavy investment in the summer, the club announced that Stuart Maynard was let go, citing they 'shared the disappointment' of everyone and 'neither results nor performances reached the levels we believe the team was capable of - particularly during the defining period towards the end.'

So, with promotion firmly in their sights again next season, the club are looking to hire a new head coach.

Next Notts County Manager Odds - The Bookies' Favourites

The market for the next Notts County boss is quite short currently, with a clear favourite leading the list of candidates.

Brian Priske - 4/7

The hiring of Brian Priske in League Two would certainly be monumental, you have to say. Formerly of Feyenoord, Sparta Prague and Royal Antwerp, all European regulars, dropping to the fourth division of England would indeed be something.

However, it seems the market has fully gotten on board with him. Only last week, the Dane was linked to the Scottish giants Rangers, who would again be a massive step up from League Two, with the greatest respect.

If County can pull off this move, it would be spectacular and would show their desire even further to go up to League One.

Joao Alves - 2/1

Joao Alves, who already works within the club, is the second choice on the market. However, after Priske's involvement, it feels like a bit of a step down, even if he is a suitable candidate.

At 35, he is certainly on the younger side of managerial appointments. Nevertheless, he has spent the past four years in Nottingham working with Luke Williams and Stuart Maynard, the latter as an analyst, chief analyst and assistant manager from January 2025.

He could be a decent option, but it may seem a little underwhelming to some...

Adam Hinshelwood - 3/1

Hinshelwood has bounced around a few Southern clubs in recent years, taking jobs with Brighton's Under-18s, Hastings United and Worthing. Now, though, he is the head coach of York City, who recently missed out on promotion.

Winning 29 matches in the National League this season, the 41-year-old has been heavily impressive and could already be sought for a move up the pyramid, even if he only moved to York in 2024.

Notts County, logically, would then be the next step, however, he has been on the drift in recent days, even going as far as 8/1.

The Odds Elsewhere

A few interesting names have also been attached to the post, notably those of Jack Wilshere and Luke Williams, the latter of whom could return after leaving for Swansea in 2024. Both are currently 8/1 in the market.

Ian Evatt also sits in the market at 16s, though, I'd imagine he would get a look at a League One club before dropping down to League Two, with the greatest respect. It also would probably be the same for Des Buckingham, who is sat at 20/1.

I'd probably only consider a bet on one of the first three markets, though; none are particularly valuable as of the time of writing.
