The Ryder Cup is one of the biggest tournaments in Golf that occurs every two years. Europe and the USA battle it out, to see who has the best golfers at that time. It is hosted with the venue alternating between courses in the USA and Europe. This year it is in Europe at The Albatros Course of Le Golf National in Guyancourt, Paris.
The Ryder Cup is all about team golf, with 12 players a team. There are 28 matches over the three days, with the Captains choosing who they want to play. Winning a match earns one point for the team and whichever team reaches 14 and a half points, wins the cup.
The first two days of the tournament will feature four-ball and foursomes matches, in which the home captain will determine the order.
Four-balls – Each member of a two-man team plays with his own ball, so four balls are in play on every hole. Same as normal, the lowest scores win each hole, but if the low scores are tied, the hole is halved.
Foursomes – Each two-man team plays with one ball per team, per hole. Players alternate hitting tee shots, with one teeing off odd numbers and the other even numbers. Again, the lowest score on each hole wins, if the low scores are tied, the hole is halved.
In the last day of the tournament, there will be 12 singles matches, that will feature one player from each team. Once again, the player with the lowest score wins that hole. If the scores are tied, the hole is halved.
