What Is Scoop 6 Betting?

The Tote Scoop 6 is a once-a-week horse racing betting pool that runs every Saturday, and occasionally on Friday evenings. Having run since 1999, it has become one of the UK's most famous horse racing bets.

Scoop 6 betting involves picking a horse in each of the six specific UK horse races that are typically available on ITV Racing every Saturday. The Scoop 6 pool is split into three separate funds: the win fund, the place fund, and the bonus fund. If you correctly pick the winners of all six races, you can land the win fund, but you also have the consolation of the place fund if your six horses manage to place.

All win fund winners, meanwhile, can then play for the bonus fund the following week. To win a share of the bonus fund, you will need to pick the winner of a selected bonus race. The minimum stake is £2 on most UK betting sites that offer Scoop 6, and the amount you win is dependent on the size of the pool divided by the amount of winning tickets (minus deductions).

The pool size rolls over to the next week if there are no winning tickets, so the prize pool can reach mouth-watering figures. If you are interested in getting in on the action, be sure to take a look at our top ten horse racing bookies.

How to Place a Scoop 6 Bet

In Scoop 6, you can choose more than one horse from each of the six races, but, you will have to pay for each line within the bet. The overall cost of the bet is easy to work out, by simply multiplying the number of selections in each race.

For example, selecting 1 horse in the first 4 races, but 2 in the last two races would cost you £8 overall. But, the cost can easily add up if you were to add 2 horses in each of the six races.

  • 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 2 x 2 = 4 x £2 (minimum stake) = £8
  • 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 64 x £2 = £128!

You can find the Scoop 6 races around midday on the Friday before the action on the Tote website. As for placing the actual bet, you can either do this on the Tote website or on one of the bookmakers that offer Scoop 6 (see below).
