Both Teams To Score Explained

Both teams to score (BTTS) is a betting market in which you can bet on 'Yes' or 'No' to both teams scoring in the match. If you bet on the 'Yes' market, you will need both teams to score at least one goal each in the match (90 minutes plus added time) while the 'No' market is neither team scoring, or just one of them.

For example, let's say that Manchester City are taking on Liverpool. The Etihad side take the lead in the first half, making it 1-0, but the Reds manage to score an equaliser in the dying minutes of the second half. The game ends 1-1, meaning those who have placed a bet on both teams to score are celebrating with the Liverpool fans. However, without that late goal, the bet would have lost.

Of course, punters do not always have to place a BTTS bet to get good value for their money. Betting on the result can also result in decent odds, especially for big games, and another way to aid this is by comparing the Premier League odds for all games.

Advice for Placing BTTS Bets

BTTS bets are very popular as the top UK bookmakers often price the yes/no markets around evens (2.00), and it's fairly easy to find and analyse the basic stats you need for these bets. Below is some advice for placing a BTTS bet and coming away with a win.

  • Analyse the stats: Essentially, you will want to look at both teams to score stats for the teams, and whether or not they have been scoring/conceding in recent matches. You can also look at home/away form to see if there are any notable differences in the number of goals scored/conceded for either team in the match

  • Check the team news: Probable line-ups and injury news will help you understand if there are any important players out of the match, which in turn could affect the goalscoring one way or the other.

  • Place in-play BTTS bets: These can provide fantastic value if used right. We recommend keeping an eye on games that look good for goals and potentially placing a 'Yes' in-play BTTS bet early in the game if both teams are creating chances. Even better, if there is a slow start to the game but you feel certain that things will heat up (higher odds).

  • Keep an eye on other markets: If you plan to place a 'No' BTTS bet, it could be worth looking at other markets for better value. Under 1.5 goals may have better odds, or maybe a "no goal" in the match bet, which is of course riskier, but could provide better value. You can also look at the 0-0 correct score market if you think the goalless draw is on the cards.

  • Place more specific BTTS bets: If your research points to plenty of goals in both halves, you could bet on Both Teams To Score in each half. These markets will always have big odds, but they are pretty hard to get right. You could also look at both teams to score in the first/second half markets, or a combo of BTTS and the match result (1X2).

Betting Sites With Good BTTS Odds

There are several good betting sites when it comes to betting on football, and we have picked out a few of them below. An important thing to consider when attempting to maximise your winnings is the betting margins, and you can read our betting margins guide if this is new to you. These will vary from site to site and are essentially the fees that betting sites charge for allowing you to place a bet.

BetVictor consistently offers low betting margins, and in turn great odds, making it a good option for bettors who want to place BTTS bets. The likes of Bet365 and Unibet are also solid choices, having been in the industry for a very long time.
