Dinamo Zagreb v Atalanta18/09/2019 20:00
Shaktar Donetsk v Manchester City18/09/2019 20:00
I am not always a fan of betting on goals in the opening games of the UCL as they tend towards being underwhelming and often cagey.
But, these two matches look like good value for both teams scoring.
Firstly, Atalanta are a both teams to score gift from the betting gods. They are not a certain, but man do they see a lot of BTTS games.
Atalanta have seen both teams score in their last seven games in a row (all competitions) and have seen it land in 12 of their last 13 away games.
They have seen both teams score in their first three league games while scoring seven and conceding six.
Having seen their attacking style of play, I can only see goals at both ends in this match.
Meanwhile, Zagreb have scored in their last 27 home games in a row… yes that is in all competitions, but that consistent scoring will bode well against this Atalanta side that are not the best at keeping clean sheets.
Also, Zagreb have scored in their last 12 matches in the UCL, and I see them getting a goal or two tonight, but they will likely struggle to keep this dangerous Atalanta side out.
This pick may come as a surprise to some, but I do see good value in both teams scoring tonight. I know, Shakhtar were smashed by Man City last season in both legs, losing 3-0 in this fixture and 6-0 at the Etihad.
But, they face a Man City that are looking vulnerable at the back right now, and I think they will concede at least one goal tonight.
Shakhtar are solid at home, scoring in 9 of their last 10 UCL games (only failing against City last season) and I see that consistency showing again tonight.
But, keeping out this Man City side will be no easy task, and I see City getting three points as they still look so dangerous going forward.
Man City have scored in their last 10 away matches, and I struggle to see Donetsk keeping them out tonight.
Also, Shakhtar have managed just one clean sheet in their last seven UCL home games.
Man City are without John Stones and Laporte at the back, and will likely need a makeshift CB to partner the below-average Otamendi.
They may prove me wrong, but I do not see this Man City defence keeping a clean sheet, but they should score goals.
