Erik Karlsson is going to San Jose Sharks and will create one of the leagues top defenses together with Brent Burns and Marc-Édouard Vlasic, just think about that power play line-up with Burns and Karlsson.

Most experts hold Erik Karlsson as the best defenseman in the world and the last couple of season he’s really developed his defense side as captain of the Senators as well. In San Jose Sharks he’ll get even more time in the offensive zone, will start every power play and be their number one defenseman.

Erik Karlsson has scored more than 14 goals for five of his last six full seasons. The 12/13 season was ruined by the NHL lock-out and Karlsson only played 17 games.

Last season Ottawa Senators was really struggeling and Karlsson had to focus, mostly, on defense but he collected an impressive 62 points anyway. This year he’ll have help from a much better side in the San Jose and can focus even more on the offensive side of his game. It’s no doubt that Erik Karlsson is the best offensive defenseman in the league.

Last year of his contract

Eventhough Erik Karlsson just got traded to the San Jose Sharks he’s still on the last year of his contract as he hasn’t promised them to sign a new contract. Players on their last year on their contracts is usually performing better than they otherwise would, it just means that they’re having another upside in performing well. Erik Karlsson could probably sign a $10 million deal as it is but with another stellar year he could be looking at a contract up to $12 million a year.

Overall, the even odds of Karlsson to score at least 15 goals just seems to good to be true. He’s hit that target five of the last six years, he’ll play an even more offensive role this year and he’ll want to impress his new organization.
