Stephen Bunting v Darren Webster01/02/2019 21:00
|Bunting Most 180s|
Now, this is a cracking opening match, but I am struggling to call a winner. Chisnall had an excellent Worlds before ultimately losing to Gary Anderson, but he was back to throwing some spectacular darts again.
I feel like this match is going to go the distance, or at the very least over 15/16 sets. Which should give Chisnall plenty of time to rack up the maximums that he just loves hitting. Chizzy is known as one of the biggest 180 hitters in the game, and he is back to his best after the Worlds.
Chisnall has hit over 5.5 180s in his last four matches in a row (yes the world’s is a long format) but this match has the potential to have a high number of legs. Let’s hope Chizzy continues his brilliant World’s form and this should land quite comfortably.
Now, Mensur is not exactly known for his high 180s count. But, the man has been hitting 180s for fun in his recent matches. He hasn’t looked too comfortable in recent months, but his 180s count has improved dramatically and I see this landing tonight.
Mensur went from hitting only 2/3/4 180s a match to hitting 7, 5 and 10 in his last three matches. Suljovic bowed out of the World’s early on, but that did not stop him hitting 10 180s as he lost 3-1 to Ryan Searle.
Just four 180s is the count we need in this match, and I am struggling to see this being a quick match. It should give Mensur plenty of time to hit enough 180s to land this pick.
If you do not fancy Mensur’s 180s (it is slightly risky), I do like the look of both players to hit 100+ checkouts at 4/5. Both players are known for their frequent high checkouts, and there is certainly value in that pick.
Another tough game to call, but I do see Bunting hitting more 180s than Webby tonight. Darren is a solid and consistent scorer, but he is not known for hitting a big number of maximums. He has not hit over four 180s in his last four TV tournaments while Bunting has landed at four or more in his last five TV appearances.
Admittedly, Bunting is not a massive 180 hitter either, but he should do enough to outscore Webby in this match. Darren had a rough exit from the Worlds hitting just 180 in his 3-0 loss to Vincent van der Voort.
Meanwhile, Bunting lost to a brilliant Luke Humphries at the same stage, but he did hit six 180s in the match while averaging a solid 88.21.
