Who will join Norwich and Sheffield United in the Premier League next season? Anything can happen in a final, but I believe this is Villa’s year, with momentum and form truly on their side.
Now, I will not go too much into previous form and stats because anything can happen in a final. But, it can give the players the crucial mental edge over their opponents, and I believe Villa players will have that boost of confidence on their side.
Villa convincingly beat Derby in both of their previous meetings during the season, winning 4-0 at Villa Park and 3-0 at Pride Park. This will certainly be in the minds of Derby players coming into this final, but how will they respond?
Derby players showed great strength in their comeback against Leeds, becoming the first team to overturn a first-leg defeat in 30 years. Some may say it was Leeds bottling it, and they could have a case.
Either way, Derby will be full of confidence after that thrilling 4-2 victory at Elland Road.
However, I still think Villa will have too much for Derby to handle today. Grealish has been key to Villa’s recent success, and I see him leading them through this final challenge.
Derby will have to be careful around the skillful Grealish, with their poor disciplinary record, they could easily rack up cards in this match.
Derby averaged 2.09 yellow cards per match during the season, and I see them getting at least one card in this match.
As for the Villa corners, they use the width of the pitch to great effect, and they averaged 6.28 corners per match during the season.
Villa racked up a massive 15 corners against West Brom in their last match, and I see them getting at least four in this game.
