Spurs v Man United – Match Preview and Tips
Spurs v Man United – Sun 13th Jan, 16:30, Wembley Stadium
Referee: Mike Dean
First of all, I cannot wait to see how the “Mike Dean show” ruins this match. Seriously, who’s idea was it to put Mike Dean as the referee in charge of this big match?!
The man just loves attention and on top of that, he’s a “Spurs fan”. Come on, we all remember that viral clip that looked like he celebrated when Spurs scored against Aston Villa.
If not, this should jog your memory.
But, if he manages to avoid controversy, and refs a good game, we could be in for a cracking match! Spurs are in fine form this season as they look for their seventh win in eight Premier League matches. But, Man United are aiming for their fifth successive Premier League win, after reforming under new manager Solskjaer.
Spurs once again delayed their new stadium opening, which once again angered fans. But, will do little to affect this match. Spurs are in fine form at Wembley, but they did slip up against Wolves in that 3-1 loss just before the new year.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became the first manager in English football since 1888 to win his first 5 games in charge by at least a 2 goal margin. But, Spurs will be his first real test after only facing struggling teams so far.
Man United often struggle down in London, winning just four of their last 17 matches in the capital. But, they will have Paul Pogba back, and he is bound to make a difference in this match. A Pogba that has looked much better since Mourinho’s dismissal.
But, Spurs are aiming to be the first team to win four consecutive PL home matches against United, after besting them 2-0, 2-1 and 3-0 in their last three meetings at “Home”.
Firstly, Spurs are 11/10 to win, the draw is 21/10 and a Man United win is 45/17.
It is hard to judge United under Ole with this being his first real test, but I am not yet convinced. I think this strong Spurs side will shine in this match, and I do see value in them winning at 11/10. However, I see more value in a BTTS match result with Spurs winning, which is best priced at 45/17 with SportNation.
Both teams have enough quality to get goals in this match, especially with United’s scoring form right now. But, United still have defensive issues as they continue to concede goals, bar the clean sheet against Newcastle. However, Newcastle have the second-worst attack in the league, so that is no surprise.
I just hope Mike Dean does not ruin this game, but if he does, it will certainly be in favour of Spurs. Either way, I see good value in Spurs winning and both teams scoring.
On that note, I see good value in Spurs main man, Harry Kane popping up with a goal or two. William Hill have boosted Harry Kane to score and Spurs win to 5/2!
