Cardiff v Huddersfield – Match Preview and Betting Tips
Cardiff v Huddersfield – Sat 12th Jan, 15:00, Cardiff City Stadium
Referee: Lee Mason
Two huge games at the bottom of the table this weekend, Burnley v Fulham and this match. But, will Huddersfield be able to stop their eight-game losing streak at the Cardiff City Stadium? I would be surprised if they did, Cardiff are actually quite capable at home, compared to a terrible, low of confidence Huddersfield team that are poor on the road.
Asides from Huddersfield’s shock 2-0 win at Molineux, they have not won any other Premier League game on the road since February 2018. The Terriers away record in the top flight is just abysmal, with seven losses this season, two draws and one win.
Although, they have lost their last four away matches in a row while scoring just two goals and conceding seven. They have lost their last two matches, which were also against relegation rivals in Burnley and Fulham.
Meanwhile, Cardiff have lost three, drawn one and won one of their last five Premier League matches. But, their three losses have come to Spurs, Man United and Watford (close 3-2) so it isn’t too bad for the Bluebirds.
On a positive note, Cardiff have won three of their last five home matches, although losing the last two (United and Spurs). Cardiff have won four matches at home this season while drawing one and losing six. But, that is much better than their away record of just one win, two draws and seven losses.
They have scored 13 goals at home compared to 6 away, but they have conceded 23 goals at home compared to 18 on the road. Either way, they are stronger at home, albeit a pretty weak team for Premier League standards.
Firstly, Cardiff are 13/10 to win, the draw is 2/1 and a Huddersfield win is 27/10.
I see value in the Cardiff win, they grind results at home and tend to do well against Huddersfield. But, both teams are pretty poor, and I see them both getting relegated this season. Backing either team here will not be a confident pick, but I would side with Cardiff at 13/10 with Betfair.
Clean sheets? Well, Cardiff can certainly score at home, only failing to do so against Spurs, Leicester, Man City and a defensive Newcastle. But, will the Terriers get on the scoresheet? That is the tough one, Huddersfield have the worst attack in the league, scoring just 13 goals in 21 games.
The Terriers top scorer is Zanka, who plays at CB. Their second highest scorer is Philip Billing, who plays as a CDM. It says a lot about their threat in front of goal. But, Cardiff do tend to leak goals, I just have no idea who will score a goal for Huddersfield, if anyone does.
Although, I do like the look of a Cardiff win and under 2.5 goals at 16/5 with Betfair.
