Spurs v Chelsea – Match Preview and Betting Tips

Spurs v Chelsea – Tuesday 8th January 20:00
Carabao Cup Semi Final First Leg
The cup ties always lead to some squad rotation, but Spurs may see more after their 7-0 win against Tranmere last Friday and their big match against Man United this Sunday. Spurs also have a number of players out with injury including Lucas Moura (Knee), Eric Dier (Appendicitis), Victor Wanyama (Knee), Lamela, Vertonghen and Dembele.
Chelsea managed to rest most of their first team players in their 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest, and they will have plenty of time to rest for the late kick-off home match against Newcastle this Saturday.
I expect two fairly strong lineups in this match as both teams look to progress to the final, and I expect a feisty affair as it usually is when these two teams meet. Also, I expect quite a few goals in this match with both teams scoring in their last four head to head meetings in a row.
Under 2.5 goals has landed in just one of their last seven meetings while seeing over 3.5 goals in their last two. Spurs won 3-1 in both Premier League fixtures last season while Chelsea won 4-2 in their last cup meeting in 2017.
Chelsea have won their last three away matches in a row, beating Brighton, Watford and Palace. But, Spurs have lost just one match at Wembley in their last seven including a 3-1 win against Chelsea in the league this season.
It is a tough game to call, especially with the squad rotations likely to have an effect on this match. But, I can see goals with both teams getting on the scoresheet.
Betting Tips
Firstly, Spurs are 11/10 to win, the draw is 11/4 and a Chelsea win is 13/5.
I am going to stay away from the win market for these tips, as I would like to see the teamsheets before I make that decision. However, I still think the goals markets have value. Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals is best priced at 11/10 with BoyleSports.
Chelsea have scored in 13 of their 14 away matches this season, while Spurs have scored in all but one of their competitive home matches this season. I expect both Kane and Hazard to start in this match, and I like the odds of both to get on the scoresheet at 7/1 with William Hill!
