Cardiff v Southampton – Match Preview and Betting Tips

Cardiff v Southampton – Sat 8th Dec, 15:00, Cardiff City Stadium
Referee: Jonathan Moss
Can Cardiff turn the Cardiff City Stadium into the fortress they need to stay up this season? Probably not, I still see them getting relegated, but they are picking up results. With three wins in their last five home games, it’s not a bad record.
Southampton have finally sacked Mark Hughes and replaced him with the “Austrian Klopp”, Ralph Hasenhuttl. He has some reputation for taking teams near the bottom to respectable mid-table finishes. But, his real success came at RB Leipzig in which he achieved a second-place finish in their first season in the Bundesliga.
Of course, he had a wealth of talent at his disposal, but still, they played exciting, attacking football comparable to Klopp’s style. But, does he have the resources at Southampton to implement that style of football?
I can’t see him having any kind of impact on this game as he was only officially announced earlier in the week. But, I do not like to bet against teams with a new manager. They always seem to get a result. However, none of the last seven Saints managers have won their first PL match in charge.
Southampton are without a win in their last eleven PL matches while drawing five and losing six. But, their recent record on the road is even worse, with four losses and one draw in their last five away games.
Cardiff’s home form will certainly cause issues for the Saints as they have scored in all but one of their last five home matches while scoring nine goals. But, they have conceded in all of those matches while keeping just one clean sheet at home this season.
Betting Tips
Firstly, a Cardiff win is 2/1, the draw is 11/5 and a Southampton win is 17/10.
I know Southampton have a new manager, but I am not sure how they are favourites in this game. But, I like the look of both teams to score which is best priced at 4/5 with BetVictor.
Again, I kind of fancy Cardiff getting something from this game and a draw no bet is best priced at evens with Betfair. But, I will most likely avoid this game as I don’t like betting on a game with a new manager.
