West Ham v Man United – Match Preview and Betting Tips
West Ham v Man United – Sat 29th Sep, 12:30, London Stadium, Ref: Michael Oliver
West Ham are now unbeaten in their last two matches, but can they get anything from this fixture? It doesn’t look great. United have a very strong record against the Hammers, with West Ham winning just one of their last 19 Premier League meetings.
But, West Ham will go into this match with confidence after their draw against Chelsea, their huge 8-0 win over Macclesfield, and United losing out to Derby in the Carabao Cup on penalties.
West Ham currently top the injury list, but Arnautovic is only a slight doubt for this game and should feature. However, West Ham are yet to score a goal against United at the London Stadium, and they could see that extend to three matches in a row. They didn’t look that threatening against Chelsea and managed just one shot on target all game.
This is a game which could go either way, not just because of the early kick-off curse… but because United are so inconsistent at the moment, and West Ham might have finally found some rhythm under Pellegrini.
If you want to ignore the early kick-off curse, we do actually see value in the United win, which is best priced at 88/100 with William Hill. But, it will be in no way a comfortable win. It will most likely be quite a dull affair, with Pellegrini using the same defensive tactics employed against Chelsea.
For that reason, we see value in under 2.5 goals at evens with Betfair. Both of these teams will play defensive football, Mourinho out of nature… and Pellegrini because it worked well against Chelsea. It would make no sense to try and go toe to toe against United.
We think chances will be few and far between, with both sides needing to be clinical in the few opportunities they get. United aren’t exactly prolific scorers on the road, and Pogba (their key creative player) seems pretty annoyed with Mourinho at the moment. I can’t see him playing his heart out in this one.
If any team is going to take their chances, United will be most likely, and we see them nicking this 1 or 2-0.
