Chelsea vs Cardiff – Match Preview and Betting Tips
Chelsea vs Cardiff City – Sat 15th Sep, 15:00, Stamford Bridge, Ref: Jonathan Moss
Can Sarri’s Chelsea extend their winning start to five in a row? It’s hard to see anything else, to be honest. The betting odds are terribly short, reminiscent of Barcelona’s odds at home against most teams in the La Liga. There is no value whatsoever in the Chelsea outright win at 1/5 at best. But, it’s not hard to see why they are so short.
Chelsea have four wins in their first four matches, with impressive win’s against Arsenal, Huddersfield away, and Newcastle away. Their recent win against Bournemouth was not as convincing, with the Cherries having decent opportunities to score. Chelsea still dominated the game in impressive style though, with 72.6% possession and a massive 704 passes throughout the match.
They left it rather late to score their goals but had a great chance in the first half with Alonso hitting the post. Overall we have been very impressed with Sarri’s 4-3-3 attacking style of play, and they look like they could challenge for the title if the right players get their goal tallies up. Morata certainly needs to step up as a striker, but Hazard could prove crucial this season if his fine form continues with 2 goals and 2 assists so far.
Cardiff managed to score their first goals of the season last week at home to Arsenal in their 2-3 defeat. But, they still look pretty bad this season and are strong relegation favourites for a reason. It’s hard to see them scoring against a Chelsea that are getting more disciplined as the season goes on. Especially at Stamford Bridge, where their form is so strong.
Value can be seen in a Chelsea to win to nil bet but it’s only best priced at 17/20 with BetVictor. We think Warnock will encourage Cardiff to break up the game as much as they can. Fouls will be plentiful, but they usually are when Hazard is on the pitch.
If you see any overs card bets, they could be good value to get on an over 2.5, or over 2.5 Cardiff cards. They currently have seven cards, after getting three against Arsenal last match.
We also like the look of highest scoring half = Second Half at 21/20 with Betway. Cardiff will no doubt come out very defensive and can be hard to break down. They come from two 0-0 draws so far in the league. Chelsea have scored 70% of their goals this season in the second half, with five coming in the 75-90 minute mark.
If Cardiff manages to score, it will most likely be in the second half as Chelsea begin to tire and make mistakes, but they should be fairly comfortable at the back as Cardiff set up in a defensive shape.
