Watford vs Crystal Palace | Premier League – Matchweek 3 of 38 Betting Preview and Tips
Watford vs Crystal Palace – Sun 26th Aug, 13:30, Vicarage Road, Ref: Anthony Taylor
A matchup of two teams that are in pretty good form right now. Watford has won both of their two opening games beating Brighton comfortably at home (2-0) and a convincing 3-1 over Burnley at Turf Moor. Fair enough, Crystal Palace did just lose to Liverpool 2-0, but Palace played much better than that scoreline suggests and proved far more clinical than Fulham in their 2-0 away win.
The Hornets played a near perfect first home game against Brighton. Scoring two goals and reducing Brighton to no shots on target all match. But, they played even better in their away victory against Burnley.
Turf Moor is a difficult place to go for most teams, but Watford managed to get their first goal early on (3rd minute) thanks to Andre Gray. It didn’t take long for the hosts to respond though. In fact, just three minutes later James Tarkowski’s header from a Gudmundsson corner made it 1-1. Watford then went back in front from a sublime pass from Doucoure to allow Deeney to slot it in past Hart.
Just two minutes after Will Hughes produced a great solo strike in the 51st minute to round off the victory. Burnley are now winless in seven successive Premier League matches (W0 D3 L4).
Crystal Palace had a very respectable perfromance against Liverpool and was unlucky not to go ahead after an incredible shot from Townsend rattled the crossbar. It took until the last minute of the first half for Mamadou Sakho to bring down Salah in the box. Steps up Milner, and of course he scores.
It became much harder for Palace after young Aaron Wan-Bissaka received a straight red card for fouling Salah who was through on goal. There was contact, enough to go down like he did, maybe not. But contact and very little protest from Wan-Bissaka. Thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Sadio Mane, the Reds killed any hope of a draw.
The loss of Aaron Wan-Bissaka will certainly have an impact on Palace as they look to stop Watford winning three games in a row. Palace have won three and drawn two of their last six meetings, but all the wins came at Selhurst Park.
It feels like it will be a tight affair, but with Watford’s recent impressive displays, they could take the three points here. The Hornets have only lost once in their last nine PL matches at Vicarage Road, winning five times and drawing three. Watford to win is best priced at 13/8 with Betfair.
Palace are somewhat of a bogey team for Watford though, in their last seven league games there have been four draws and three wins for Palace. If you don’t fancy the Watford win, we like the look of BTTS match result draw at 18/5 with BetVictor.
