Everton vs Southampton | Premier League – Matchweek 2 of 38 Betting Preview and Tips
Everton vs Southampton – Sat 18th August, Kick Off 15:00, Goodison Park, Referee: Lee Mason
Firstly, both teams come from hard-fought draws in their last matches. Everton performed admirably with just ten men from 40 minutes and onwards after an awful challenge from Jagielka on Jota. No matter the card decision, Jagielka lost control of the ball and lunged into a challenge catching Jota straight in the ankle with his studs showing.
It is hard to defend such a challenge and not many will question the red card. In fact, Everton has already opted to not appeal the red card so Jagielka will face a three-match ban. But, it could spell good news for Everton fans as they get to see Zouma or Yerry Mina called into action early after an impressive World Cup for Mina and a decent loan spell at Stoke for Zouma.
Richarlison bagged two goals but limped off with a suspected cramp in the 86th minute but is expected to be fit and ready for this game. It took a brilliant performance from Ruben Neves for the hosts to draw level. First, scoring a great free-kick from the Jagielka red card challenge. Then, playing a nice ball onto the head of Jimenez to score the equaliser.
Southampton can thank their star man, Alex McCarthy for saving a point. McCarthy made five great saves with at least three of them being excellent. Joe Hart also had a great game with a string of fine saves. Burnley had the better chances in the opening half with Lennon and Hendrick both denied from close range by McCarthy. Hart then made some great save’s to deny Danny Ings and Jack Stephens from finding the back of the net.
In the end, it was a goalless draw in which could have ended with three or four goals with all the chances. Southampton will take some positives from their fine second-half performance but will find it tough at Goodison this Saturday.
