Cardiff vs Newcastle | Premier League – Matchday 2 of 38 Betting Tips and Preview
Cardiff vs Newcastle – Sat 18th August, Kick Off 12:30, Cardiff City Stadium, Ref: Craig Pawson
Both teams have started the new season with a loss, but, Newcastle looked like they are more than capable of staying up this season. Whereas, Cardiff suited their most likely to get relegated odds.
It was a tough game for Cardiff with Bournemouth quick to dominate possession, forcing their opponents back into their own half for a lot of the game. Ryan Fraser opened the scoring, and then Callum Wilson was brought down by Bruno Manga awarding Bournemouth a penalty. But, Neil Etheridge made a great save to deny the forward.
Cardiff City improved in the second half but their efforts were in vain after Callum Wilson scored in extra time to seal Bournemouth’s first opening day win since 2015.
It was a much better showing for Newcastle apart from a brief spell of defensive scrappiness. All three goals came from headers in which can only be described as defensive blunders with players ball watching or just falling asleep. The goals themselves were well taken yet, easily preventable with alert and switched on defending. Newcastle pressed hard in the second half coming close with two efforts hitting the woodwork.
Newcastle fans will be sad to see DeAndre Yedlin hobble off with a nasty looking knee injury, meaning both their first choice RB and CB (Florian Lejeune) are out with no return date in sight at the moment. Florian Lejeune is recovering from a serious ACL knee injury and Yedlin’s injury is yet to be determined. Meaning Javi Manquillo looks set to start in his place.
Defensively, Newcastle looked weak and scrappy at times against a solid Tottenham squad. But, we do not think the same issues will appear against a weaker Cardiff. The Magpies certainly showed enough going forward, creating a number of great chances against Spurs. We expect them to do more of the same and get the away win against Cardiff this Saturday.
The Newcastle away victory is best priced at 17/10 with BetVictor. Both teams may have played more recently in the Championship. But, Newcastle United have won their last 10 league meetings with Cardiff City.
However, we tend to advise avoiding the early kick-off for serious scientific reasons. The meticulously researched, well-proven, early kick-off curse is real ladies and gentlemen.
