Southampton vs Burnley | Premier League – Matchday 1 of 38 Betting Preview
Southampton vs Burnley – Sun 12th August, Kick Off: 14:30, St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton
Southampton will be aiming for their first ever Matchday 1 home win in the Premier League. In 19 opening matches, they have only won twice but, both were away from home. This fixture should give them a great opportunity to break the curse as they have won 8 and drawn 6 in their last 16 league matches against Burnley.
Both teams have had a good time in the transfer window. Burnley has been forced to sign Joe Hart after losing both their keepers to injury. But, Hart’s errors were directly responsible for more goals than the whole Burnley defence last season. They have also added a solid defensive option in Ben Gibson, and the Championship’s top goal-scorer last season, Matej Vydra.
Southampton has signed a cracking young keeper in Angus Gunn from Man City. As well as a decent CB in Jannik Vestergaard with a wealth of experience from the Bundelisga. Then, two highly rated attacking players in Stuart Armstrong who scored 17 goals during the 16/17 campaign for Celtic. And, Mohamed Elyounoussi had two outstanding seasons with Basel, scoring 23 times and assisting a further 30 times. But, whether these players can perform at the highest level is yet to be seen.
Burnley’s excellent home form is what kept them in the Premier League during the 16/17 campaign, with only 1 away win and 14 losses. However, in the 17/18 season, they picked up more points away from home. A total of 7 wins, 7 draws and only 5 losses on the road.
Burnley are also undefeated against Southampton in their last three league meetings (W2 D1). Burnley are best priced at 4/1 to get the away win with BetVictor. But, for the safer option, Burnley or Draw double chance is even’s with Unibet. Or Burnley Draw no bet is 5/2 with Betfred.
