Champions League semifinals- first leg
Both the Champions League and Europa League were back last week and there was plenty of interesting results. Four games were Europe´s best clubs are competing for two trophies. Winning the Europa League is not only winning a title but you are also granted a direct Champions League ticket for next season. Something that Manchester United are in desperate need of.
First of was the game between the Madrid clubs, Real Madrid versus their arch enemy Atletico Madrid. Now since Diego Simeone took over Atletico Madrid these games have been very close. And the edge that Real Madrid used to have is not there anymore. But in this semifinal in my personal opinion it is back. Both coaches lined up with the strongest possible team. Bale are still out and Zidane choose Isco in his place. Simeone had Carrasco back and he started on the left flank. It did not take a long time before Real Madrid had taken the lead by the their number seven, Cristiano Ronaldo. A cross from Casemiro that Ronaldo perfectly headed in behind Oblak in the Ateltico goal. And Atletico honestly, came never back in the game after the early goal. Just before halftime, Dani Carvajal fell after a challenge and had to be substituted.
In the second half Simeone tried substituted more attackers to get an away goal. But instead of scoring they conceded even more. In the 73rd minute and in the 86th minute Oblak had to take out the ball from his net and both times it was Cristiano Ronaldo. He completed his hattrick and Real Madrid with a 3-0 win has a foot in the final.
Juventus traveled to Monaco to play against the French team, who is also the league leader. All eyes were of course fixed on the two wonder boys. Dybala who played a very good game against Barcelona and Mbappe who have been phenomenal this season. Allegri chose to start with a five men backline where the two wingers would be running a lot, but when you have Sandro on the left flank and Dani Alves on the right that is of course no problem. With Khedira suspended Marchiso got the chance. While Mbappe started upfront together with the Colombian Falcao for Monaco.
Just as expected Juventus came to Monaco to keep a clean sheet. And that is exactly what they managed to do. Monaco tried multiple times to break the center backs but when they were beaten Buffon showed up at the right time. Before the game there were a lot of discussion about how Higuain manages to disappear when he is needed the most and this game maybe silence the doubters for a while. Because the Argentinian striker scored both goals for Juventus who also won the game with 2-0. A game which truly brought us back to the times where Italian tactical football were the best. Allegri played a perfect game once again and have now a 2-0 lead with him back to Turin and Juventus Stadium. Monaco has now a near to impossible test ahead, beating Juventus at Juventus Stadium with at least two goals.
