Leadership cannot be talked about in the football world without mentioning the name Steven Gerrard. Playing for Liverpool for the best part of his career, it appears that Liverpool is unto him again, with a new scope. Apart from facing some new challenges in the United States, everyone feels like there is something drawing him back to Liverpool, after having been gone to play for LA Galaxy for an eighteen month contract. It is now certain that he will leave the club at the end of this contract. He has stated that he is most likely going to retire soon, though he hasn’t decided yet.
Gerrard has mentioned going back to Liverpool one day, but nobody envisaged that he would be going back as coach. For Gerrard, both as a coach and as a player would be great. Serving 17 seasons in Liverpool has earned him so much honor and therefore has given him a passage into Liverpool any time. He is said to be welcomed after a chat with Jürgen Klopp at Melwood during one of his recent trainings there. Time will tell if he eventually returns, and if so, in what role?
He went on from playing co-captain to becoming captain because of the high reputation he had attained in leadership. Also, having played for England, and later retired from international football, he has his regrets for not starting his coaching career earlier in life, but he is working on getting there soon. It is not certain what role would be assigned to Gerrard if he returns to Liverpool, but he is out to get more experiences as a coach, though there is yet no offer on the table. For someone with a dream of becoming a coach, he still considers himself nothing close to that yet, until he gets the experiences and the coaching badges, as being a coach seems different from being a captain.
