Zlatan Ibrahimovich’s Move to Manchester United
Swedish national and international football superstar Zlantan Ibrahimovich’s move to Manchester United was a huge turn in the game for the team and the player. Zlatan had always had a reputation for his flair and extreme confidence (read: ego). The striker even had the habit of referring to himself in the third person. And of course, a lot of his hype is justified: this is the guy who scored a bicycle kick from 30 yards out against England. Manchester United is in a way similar to Ibrahimovich, so the move could be seen as a match made in heaven.
Starting his league career with Malmo in the late 1990s, Ibrahimovich moved through Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain before moving to English side Manchester United in July of 2016 after a brief stint as a free agent. The move saw the reunion of Zlatan with his former Inter manager, Jose Mourinho. The contract was just for a year, but with the possibility of extension based on his performance. With a reported salary of more than 200,000 Euros per week, it is no wonder the athlete has been shining in his Manchester United position.
Zlatan scored the match winning goal for Manchester United at the FA Community Shield in August, and followed up with a goal in his opening week with the team and two goals in his home debut. The love was there from the beginning, with Mourinho and Manchester United Ryan Giggs praising the move. Die-hard fans are also warming to his arrival: social media was buzzing before, during, and long after the announcement of his move to Manchester United. They even invented a chant for Zlatan: “Zlatan Ibrahimovic/He is a Swedish hero/On a free from PSG/He cost us f***ing zero.”
Zlatan’s move to Manchester United was definitely one of the most exciting this year and the charismatic Swedish striker is taking in every moment.
