El Clasico: Review

It was time for one of the greatest game in football to be played. Where all the world´s superstars make up on so much more than a game. El Clasico, called that because of the game being played every season though Barcelona and Real Madrid has never been regulated down to La Segunda. Messi versus Ronaldo, Benzema versus Suarez, and Zidane versus Luis Enrique.

Barcelona chasing Real Madrid, down with three points and Madrid had one game in hand. The first game at Camp Nou ended with a draw 1-1, Ramos scored the equalizer at the 92nd minute. Since the Spanish League decides the leader depending on the games within between the teams and not goal difference. So this game would be decisive for how the league race would be.

Barcelona had just been trashed out of the Champions League by Juventus with a 3-0 total. While Madrid advanced by winning 4-2 at the Bernabue against Bayern. With Neymar also suspended from the game Barcelona were not looking good. But as we all know the form do not mean that much when it is time for the classic to be played.

Zidane surprised us with starting line-up including Gareth Bale. The Welshmen was a doubt for the game and the reports were that he would be starting from the bench. While Luis Enrique started just as expected going back to the Barcelona classis 4-3-3 with Paco Alcacer starting to the left instead of Neymar.

Real Madrid started the game best and were pressing Barcelona high up and lining up chances. And took eventually the lead, after a freekick where Ramos hit the post and the ball landed at Casemiro´s feet and could easily score. But it did not take a long time before the man that had the eyes on him. Lionel Messi took the ball and started an attack. The ball went to the right flank and was crossed in by Rakitic. Messi did no mistake and equalized the game. After that Gareth Bale was injured and Zidane choose the new upcoming star Asensio to replace him, something that surely angered the inform Isco. The first half ended 1-1.

Now in the second half both teams were pressing in a game were the was plenty of chances for both teams. Alcacer were close once but Navas denied him. While Ter Stegen in the Barcelona goal seemed impossible to beat. He was saving everything. In the 73rd minute Rakitic received the ball just outside the penalty box, and curled a ball beautifully behind Navas. Now Real was chasing and pressing which gave Barcelona a lot of space to counterattack. And that was exactly what happened as Messi got the ball and only Ramos left. The Argentine dribbled Ramos but the Spaniard made a horrible challenge and the referee had no choice but to show the red card. Even with ten men Real was pressing and would be able to score the equalizer through James Rodriguez whom Zidane just substituted. With only ten minutes left on the clock everything seemed done. But Messi had other things in mind.

Sergio Roberto took the ball from Marcelo low in his own half and started running into the middle. And found Gomes who passed the ball to Alba at the left. While the Madrid players were waiting for the cross, Messi took some steps back and got a pass from Alba and like always Messi decides the game for Barcelona. It was his 500 goal and he celebrated it by taking of his shirt and showing Bernabue who really is the man of the game.

3-2 to Barcelona means that both teams have the same amount of points with only five games left for Barcelona, while Madrid has six. It will be a tight race to the end, but now Barcelona can truly have hope because if Real loses one game while Barcelona win all of them they will be the league champions for the third consecutive time under Luis Enrique.
