Champions League: The first 4 teams in the quarter-finals
There is nothing more exciting than the midweek Champions League games. It is when the best teams in Europe takes on each other and now when the knockout games start the games becomes more intense. This week we had four games and from these four games we would get the first four teams of the final eight.
First out was Real Madrid against Napoli. Madrid won 3-1 in the first game at the Bernabue and now it was all up to Napoli to give everything. And they started of very well. They pressed high and made it through Real Madrids back four and created chances. But what are chances worth if not converted to goals. It took a long time before Mertens managed to get the ball behind Keylor Navas. And hope was all of sudden present in Napoli. They tried to get the second goal but who else then Real Madrids own Sergio Ramos destroyed all their chances. All it took was two corners and the captain had two goals and had single handedly turned over the game. A comeback was now impossible for Napoli. And in the last minutes Morata succeeded to get in the third and final goal.
Real Madrid goes through with a total of 6-2.
Arsenal had a mission impossible ahead of them. Bayern managed to win the first leg at Allianz Arena with 5-1. A game where the Arsenal team was just lost and Sanchez showed his frustrations clearly on the pitch. Wenger was heavily criticized after leaving Sanchez on the bench against Liverpool, a call that backfired. Sanchez started this game though at the Emirates. And it started out very well actually. Walcott scored a wonderful goal past Neuer who had no chance. But then something happened. The Arsenal defense was not in position as the ball found itself to Lewandowski. Koscielny came from behind and tried to stop him. The referee decided that it wasn´t within rulebook and pointed at the penalty spot. Koscielny protested and received a red card and Lewandowski scored. Then came the collapse. Arsenal were completely overrun again but this time it was at the Emirates. The game ended again 1-5 in favor to Bayern. And Arsenal hit a new bottom record, the second largest losing marginal in Champions League history.
Bayern Munchen goes through with a total of 10-2
Benfica took an important win against Dortmund in the first leg with 1-0. A game that Aubamayung will probably forget very soon because of all the missed chances. But now it was the Signal Iduna Park and there nothing can stop Dortmund. And directly from the start they pressed and they played an excellent game and they won with 4-0. Aubamayung got his revenge and scored a hattrick.
Borussia Dortmund through with a total of 4-1.
Barcelona had an impossible task ahead, overturning the 4-0 defeat at Parc des Princes against PSG. With the slogan “It is impossible until done possible” they entered the game with great energy. And after a perfect start and within 55 minutes they were leading 3-0. It seemed really possible but Cavani scored a goal and everyone thought the game was over. But Neymar had other ideas, a beautiful freekick in the 87th minute then a penalty kick in the 91st minute made it 5-1. With five minutes add on time and only one goal needed Barcelona stormed the PSG goal with everything they had. And again Neymar crossed the ball into the penalty box and Sergio Roberto scored the sixth goal and history was made that day.
FC Barcelona through with a total of 6-5
